As most adults are, I am a coffee junkie, but I am proud to say that with age, my tastes have matured, making quality matter much more than quantity when it comes to my daily cups of Joe. Luckily, coffee shops are on the rise in Hamilton Heights, some setting a very high standard for the newbies. One of the owners of The Chipped Cup, Karen Cantor, also partly owns Filtered, located at 1616 Amsterdam Ave at the corner of 140th street. (Fun fact: other Chipped Cup owner Andrew Ding owns Handpulled Noodle right next door to Chipped Cup between 149th and 150th street on Broadway.) Both cafes give the same warm, unique feel while keeping their own identities and providing top notch beverages. Any number of drool-inspiring combinations can be made by mixing a hot or cold coffee with one of the fresh baked goods in their pastry cases. I couldn’t resist snapping a photo (below) of the tantalizing pastry case at Filtered. The delicious donuts provided by Dough Loco are a must but get there early because they sell out quick. I enjoyed the Maple Miso donut (pictured below).
